Girl groups, we fall in love with them, they fall out of love with one another and then we are left with only memories of what could have been.

The last successful girl group in the US was Destiny's Child who called it quits back in 2006 after wrapping up their Destiny Fulfilled...and Lovin' It tour. Since then we've seen plenty of girl groups come and go. The ever changing line-up of the Pussycat Dolls, Electrik Red, RichGirl, The Yes Ma'ams, and Vanity 6 inspired trio Nikki 16.

With overseas girl groups such as Little Mix, Stooshe, The Saturdays, and 2NE1 making major moves in their respective markets, it's time for the US to catch on and there are a few acts waiting for the return of the girl group. While newcomers Love Dollhouse, Havok Jones and the Jazmine Sisters patiently await for their turn to impact Billboard, established acts like TLC, SWV, Jade and Danity Kane have reunited in the hopes of bringing back the girl group.

Billboard compiled a list of the Top 40 girl groups songs of all time. Based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 chart through the tally dated May 3, 2014m the songs were ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least.
