Five years since her last album, Ameriie has finally returned with the new single “What I Want.”
The funky, go-go track features a sample of the classic Sugarhill Gang song “Apache (Jump On It),” and finds the singer riding the dance beat with her soulful vocals. Reminiscent to her 2005 Rich Harrison-produced hit “1 Thing,” but lacking the charm of "1 Thing," I don't see this single performing well on any platform.
Ameriie is serially-underrated and it's her single choices that have caused her to be so. After "1 Thing" explpded all over Billboard, she followed it up with "Touch" which was catchy, just not enough to garner her another smash. "Falling," "the Rich Harrison penned "Come With Me," and "Not The Only One" all would have served as solid second-single releases from the album.
With lack of promotion and a second single "Heard 'Em All" that should have been the lead single from In Love & War, her last effort was D.O.A.
I'm still very much excited to hear what else "A" has been working on, but "What I Want" is such a waste of time to promote. What I want is for the 34 year-old to get another hit, but with releases such as this--I don't see it happening.
