University of Massachusetts Amherst basketball player Derrick Gordon made headlines in April of this year when he came out publicly to his teammates and shared his story with the world, making him the first openly gay man to play college basketball, according to OutSports.

When speaking on how he felt after coming out, Gordon stated, "Happy' is not even the word. It's a great
feeling. I haven't felt like this. Ever. It's a lot of weight lifted off my shoulders. I can finally breathe now and live life happily. I told all the people I need to tell. God put me in this situation for a reason, so I have to take advantage of it. Maybe he wants me to be the starter of something big. Maybe he doesn't want me to feel the way I felt anymore. Whatever he has in store for me, I’m ready."

Apparently what God had in-store for the 22-year-old was a new chance at love. Recently he appeared at the GLAAD Media Awards on May 3 with his rumored boyfriend actor Gerald McCullouch, 47, who is familiar to fans of CSI as well as those who remember him playing a popular daddy character in the movie Bear City.

According to McCullouch who recently wrapped production on Daddy, his feature directorial debut, which he also stars in, the two first connected via Twitter several years ago after Gordon saw him in Bear City.

"Through the years I've encouraged him to lead an authentic life and tried my best to offer as much objective support as possible," McCullouch told E! Online. "It was a scary time for him, and I tried my best to assure him that self-acceptance wasn't anything to be ashamed of. And I strongly suggested he find a support team at UMass."

Gordon also tweeted out a photo of he and his boyfriend, along with Wilson Cruz (who serves as GLAAD's National Spokesperson and Strategic Giving Officer), writing: "LIVING IT UP!!!! NIGHT WAS A BLAST!!! #Loveislove."
